All standards for civil aviation theory examinations and flight tests in Australia are set and mandated by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
The major theory examinations, PPL, CPL and IREX are set and marked by CASA and supervised by CASA appointed conducting officers. RVAC has 3 such conducting officers available. The minor theory examinations (pre-GFPT level) are set and marked within the flight school.
The standards to be achieved during flight tests are clearly defined by CASA. All flight tests for licence and rating qualification are conducted by CASA Approved Test Officers (ATOs). RVAC has 3 such officers on staff authorised to test to CPL level and 1 to CIR level.

During your course a “Progress Record” will be maintained. At the end of each flight lesson, your achievement will be discussed with you and noted in the Progress Record. The content of this record is available to you. At intervals, your instructor will assess your rate of progress and, if it is considered unsatisfactory, he will advise the Chief Flying Instructor who will endeavour to identify and rectify any difficulty which you are having. Should your progress continue to be unsatisfactory, we are obligated to advise both you and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC); this action may initiate cancellation of your visa. To assist with this process, we have devised a series of benchmarks which will estalish prima facie trigger points for both intervention and formal reporting. We expect that the average diligent student will perform well within these benchmarks.
