Fees and costs

Your course fees include:

Theory courses
Flight training
Pre- and post-flight briefings

Your fees do not cover:

Additional training beyond the prescribed minimum in each course. It is well    known that students progress at different rates and that many will require additional training to achieve the necessary competencies.   The need for additional training is impossible to predict in the early stages of each course, but will be discussed with each student as the need becomes apparent.

When you make an initial enquiry of RVAC, you will be given a ‘model’ costing for the course that you require.   It is an estimate based on the training required by the typical, diligent and competent student.   It may represent more than the statuary minimum training required and probably less than some students will require.

Also, RVAC costs, being significantly dependant on the price of aviation fuel, as well as government and airport imposed charges, cannot be accurately predicted.

You will therefore be charged for the actual training which you receive, at the published prices at that time.

Fee Collection:

On Application:  AU$150, by credit card or bank transfer.   This amount covers the initial processing of your application, including the issue of a Letter of Offer and a Confirmation of Enrolment Certificate if appropriate.   It is non-refundable.

Note:  An addirional amount of AU$100 may be required if a further Letter of Offer and/or a new Confirmation of Enrolment Certificate is requested showing revised dates for your course or for a different course.

On Commencement:   You will be required to deposit a sum of AU$10,000 or the estimated total cost of your course, whichever is the lesser, into an account in your name with RVAC.

During Training:   Further lump sum deposits will be required according to a schedule to be included in your ‘Letter of Offer’.   You will be invoiced and your account debited with the actual training costs as they occur.   It is the student responsibility to ensure that this account is kept in credit.   If the balance falls below AU$250 (about one hour of dual instruction), the tuition will be suspended.   Suspension for greater than 2 weeks may result in course termination and your visa possibly withdrawn.

On Completion or On Prior Termination for Any Reason:  Any monies remaining in your account will be returned to you in full.

Refund Policy:

·        Default by Royal Victorian Aero Club:   This occurs if:
o       the course does not start on the agreed day or ceases to be provided,
o       or if it ceases to be provided at any time during the nominal currency of course,
o       or if the course is not provided due to a sanction imposed on RVAC by Department of Education, Science and training;
and the student has not withdrawn prior to the default day.

RVAC is a member of an Australian Government Tuition Assurance Scheme (TAS) fund.   In the event of RVAC default, the TAS will attempt to locate the student in another school which is registered to provide a similar course.   If that is not possible, the TAS will refund the student fees.

·        Student Default:   This occurs if:
o       the student does not start the course on the agreed starting date,
o       or the student withdraws from the course either before or after the agreed starting date,
o       or RVAC refuses to provide or continue providing the course because:
§         the student failed to pay a portion of the fee when due, or
§         the student breached a condition of the student’s visa, or
§         misbehaviour by the student.

In the event of student withdrawal prior to the course start, RVAC will refund all monies received other than the initial AU$100 application fee.
Note:  If the withdrawal was due to the student being refused a visa, all monies received will be refunded.

In the event of student default after course start, RVAC will refund any monies remaining in your account.

The refund must be requested in writing by the student within two months of default.   It will be paid by RVAC by cheque, in Australian currency, to the student or his nominee within 4 weeks of receipt of the written request.

Nothing in the above removes the student’s right to take further action under Australia’s consumer protection laws.
