Royal Victorian Aero Club - Courses Available

Overseas Students Courses

It is a requirement of the ESOS Act that only full-time courses be offered to overseas students.   Part-time tuition is not available.   In practice, this translates into a requirement of 20 contact hours per week.

ATPL courses will be commenced in February, June and October, if required.
Although the timing of all other courses is flexible and can be commenced at any time, we prefer to commence each new course on the first Monday in each calendar month.

Notes:

  1. Both licence courses offer the opportunity of additional ratings and endorsements, if required.   These include Night-VFR,  Aerobatics, Formation and/or Tail-wheel endorsements.   Extra cost may be involved.   However, the number of combinations is large and prospective students should contact RVAC for specific costings
  2. There is no requirement for students to pass the PPL test flight before proceeding to complete the CPL.   However, some students may wish to do so in order to carry passengers and share costs while building experience.   The PPL test flight will incur an extra cost.
  3. This period includes an allowance for 2 periods of leave of up to 3 weeks each during which the student may wish to return home or to tour within Australia.   It is suggested that these be taken following completion of the GFPT and after achieving PPL level.
  4. The holding of a Commercial Pilot Licence is a pre-requisite for the Flight Instructor Rating.   The combined duration is nominally 55 weeks, including a further period of leave, if required.
  5. This period includes one period of leave.   It is suggested that this be taken after completion of the GFPT.
  6. This course is currently not available.
  7. This is a combined course including CPL , Multi engine endorsement and Command Instrument rating.
This is the preferred course for those wishing to obtain a career in airlines

Your Theory Modules (Ground Training)

The theory modules are an integral part of flight training in Australia.   The modules will complement and assist your practical flight training.   A thorough knowledge of the subject matter is essential to minimise the (expensive) flight time that you will need inorder to achieve the required standard in your final licence and ratings test.

The CPL course offered to new pilots is an integrated course which schedules the theory modules within the flight training programme in accordance with CASA rules.   Indeed, the CPL level examinations cannot be taken before certain stages of the flight training have been concluded.

Our experience is that self study does not work in most cases.   Students are frequently unable to pass the required examinations within a reasonable time and, importantly, self study students often require longer flight instruction to compensate for inadequate understanding.   Consequently, RVAC policy is that all students must attend formal classes when scheduled.
